The number of entrepreneurial insights Mike crammed into this episode is truly phenomenal. Here's our Top 10 list of what we're calling "Mike's Nuggets of Wisdom":
* “There’s a difference between building software and building software products. Software products rely on customer self-sufficiency if they want to scale and make money”.
* “What I love about the cloud is the elasticity, the scalability".
* “You have to listen very carefully to your customer because they usually have excellent ideas”.
* “When you look in the code and there is ‘if the customer equals ‘x’ do this, that is the death of you. You end up with this mish mash of spaghetti code”.
* “Great leaders always simplify” (actually a General Colin Powell quote!)
* “We are constantly working on the user experience by reducing complexity”.
* “Elegance is a simple solution to a complex problem. Not a complex solution to a complex problem.”
* “You will never be as smart as all your customers put together”.
* “We’re totally virtual, we live on Zoom and Skype for collaboration and sit on top of all these other software products. If we had to do this all this stuff alone it wouldn’t be very productive. Today you don’t have to do any of that. You can focus 100% of your energy on the business problem you are trying to solve.”
* “Someone will always come up your tailpipe” referencing Clayton Christiansen’s The Innovators Dilemma (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Innovator%27s_Dilemma) of how competitors solve a simpler problem for a smaller market that you’re not interested in.

The number of entrepreneurial insights Mike crammed into this episode is truly phenomenal. Here's our Top 10 list of what we're calling "Mike's Nuggets of Wisdom":

“There’s a difference between building software and building software products. Software products rely on customer self-sufficiency if they want to scale and make money”.

“What I love about the cloud is the elasticity, the scalability".

“You have to listen very carefully to your customer because they usually have excellent ideas”.

“When you look in the code and there is ‘if the customer equals ‘x’ do this, that is the death of you. You end up with this mish mash of spaghetti code”.

“Great leaders always simplify” (actually a General Colin Powell quote!)

“We are constantly working on the user experience by reducing complexity”.

“Elegance is a simple solution to a complex problem. Not a complex solution to a complex problem.”

“You will never be as smart as all your customers put together”.

“We’re totally virtual, we live on Zoom and Skype for collaboration and sit on top of all these other software products. If we had to do this all this stuff alone it wouldn’t be very productive. Today you don’t have to do any of that. You can focus 100% of your energy on the business problem you are trying to solve.”

“Someone will always come up your tailpipe” referencing Clayton Christiansen’s The Innovators Dilemma of how competitors solve a simpler problem for a smaller market that you’re not interested in.

As golf course owners and managers started to transition their operations over to digital and online platforms, they signed deals with technology providers that negatively impacted their revenues and their ability to control tee time pricing. Needing to overcome the similar issues facing the hotel industry years earlier regarding online reservations, the National Golf Course Owners of America (NGCOA) and The PGA of America recognized the need to create an organization that looked after the best interests of both sides of the marketplace.

A primary purpose of the NGCOA is to support a more competitive and balanced marketplace in public golf that is both supportive of the golf course owner, operator, PGA professional and the golf consumer. They accomplish this by promoting adoption of online tee time guidelines and best practices among technology companies, online agents, marketers, golf course operators, general consumers, and the media.

The mission of these programs is to encourage and promote individuals to learn the benefits of golf, provide organized golf clinics, participate in recreational golf activities, fitness workshops and mentoring opportunities.
The mentoring program, Girls on the Green Tee (GOTG-T), is designed for girls ages 10 -17, answering the ever present need for strong, accomplished, and resilient female role-models. WOCG & GOTG -T seeks to create a spark of interest and inspiration in the game of golf. This inspiration is then turned into action by connecting the women and girls to our golf community through golf instruction, activities and events.
The Women of Color Golf (WOCG) and Girls on the Green Tee (GOTG-T) programs have grown into a national recognized, community-based program, with recent recognition by former President Barack Obama, as a U.S. White House Champion of Change for After School Extra Curricula Enrichment for Marginalized Girls.
WOCG has been featured in Forbes, Ebony, Black Enterprise, Golf for Her, Professional Golf Association (PGA) magazine, the African American Golfer’s Digest and several local Tampa Bay TV and radio broadcasts.

HISTORY OF THE WORLD GOLF FOUNDATION
In the late 1980s, PGA TOUR Commissioner Deane Beman began to consider the benefits of having a PGA TOUR Hall of Fame near the TOUR's headquarters in northeast Florida and adjacent to the heavily-trafficked I-95 corridor.
A few years later, after land for the project had been secured, Beman called LPGA Commissioner Charlie Mechem and invited the LPGA to join with the TOUR in the project; the LPGA had had a Hall of Fame for years on paper, but never a place they could appropriately honor their great players.
Once the LPGA agreed to participate, the TOUR reached out to other major golf organizations; the USGA and the R&A agreed to contribute to the project, and the PGA of America subsequently decided to close the former World Golf Hall of Fame in Pinehurst and consolidate it with the new project. The new World Golf Hall of Fame, at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, was born.
When it became obvious that this was no longer a PGA TOUR project but rather something beneficial for the entire world of golf, Beman and his associates at the TOUR determined that a new management organization was required, an ecumenical entity that would have no other agenda than the promotion and honoring of the game's most significant contributors. In 1994 the World Golf Foundation was formed, with an independent Board of Directors. New PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem was named Chairman, and the other major golf associations had representation on the Board as well.
It was always assumed that a significant charitable outreach program would emerge from the Hall of Fame and the World Golf Foundation. It was Finchem's vision to find a way to bring the game of golf to youngsters who would never otherwise have the chance to experience the benefits and assimilate the values inherent in the game. Through his leadership, and the powerful support of Honorary Chairman President George H.W. Bush, The First Tee was announced in 1997. Today it stands as the most successful youth outreach program in the history of golf.
The third initiative of the World Golf Foundation was launched in 2000. The golf industry was not growing as it had in the 1990s even though interest in the game had never been greater. Industry leaders approached Finchem about having the World Golf Foundation oversee an initiative to focus on the future vitality of the game. GOLF 20/20 was created for that purpose, and the first annual 20/20 conference was held in November of 2000, in conjunction with the annual Hall of Fame Induction. Special Guest: Steve Mona - CEO of The World Golf Foundation.
