Jimmy Roberts / 16-Time Emmy Award-Winning Broadcaster, Storyteller & Co-Founder of Big Swing Media
Special guest
Jimmy Roberts is one of the most respected and accomplished voices in sports broadcasting history. Over a career spanning more than four decades, the 16-time Emmy Award winner has covered virtually every major sporting event on the planet — from the Super Bowl and World Series to the NBA Finals, the Kentucky Derby, Wimbledon, and 20 Olympic Games.
Since joining NBC Sports in 2000, Roberts has become a fixture of the network's golf coverage, serving as an essayist, interviewer, feature reporter, and studio host for the PGA Tour, the Masters, the U.S. Open, and the Ryder Cup. His distinctive storytelling style, described by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus as "touching the hearts and challenging the minds of viewers," has made him one of the game's most beloved broadcasters.
Roberts' path to broadcasting began unconventionally. A high school lacrosse player who was cut from the University of Maryland team, he cold-called ABC's Wide World of Sports as a college student and talked his way into a production runner role at the 1976 lacrosse national championship. That tenacity launched a career that included roles as a writer and producer for Howard Cosell at ABC, co-originator of ESPN's groundbreaking Outside the Lines series, and a correspondent for SportsCenter throughout the network's golden era. A graduate of the University of Maryland, Roberts is also an accomplished author, having published Breaking the Slump in 2009 and co-authoring No One Wins Alone with NHL legend Mark Messier in 2022.
Today, Roberts continues to evolve as a media entrepreneur. In 2026, he co-founded Big Swing Media, a premium B2B digital media company focused on the rapidly growing business side of golf - a quarter-trillion-dollar global industry he believes has been underserved by traditional coverage. The company produces The Big Swing with Jimmy Roberts podcast, a weekly television show on Golf Channel, and the Golf Business Intelligence Brief newsletter. In recognition of his contributions to golf journalism, Roberts was named the 2026 recipient of the Tim Rosaforte Distinguished Journalist Award.
A proud former caddie who was inducted into the Caddie Hall of Fame in 2025, Roberts lives in the New York area with his wife, Sandra, and their three sons.
