Greg Collins, Founder & CEO of GRIT Inc.
Special guest
Greg Collins is not your typical golf industry executive. With a degree in industrial design from Toronto's Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD), Greg spent over 45 years at the intersection of sports, creativity, and manufacturing. His career began at Cooper Canada - the country's largest sporting goods manufacturer - where he designed everything from running shoes to, ironically, his first golf bag long before he ever considered himself a golfer. After two decades as a sought-after freelance designer for hockey giants like Bauer, CCM, and Micron, as well as Rollerblade, Greg grew frustrated watching his concepts get watered down by sales-driven committees. That frustration led him to found GRIT Inc. in 2000, determined to build a design-driven company on his own terms.
The turning point came not on a golf course, but in a Bolton, Ontario pizza parlour, where Greg met inventor Aldo Buccione. Aldo had a crude patent for a stand-up hockey bag with shelves and doors - an idea Greg initially dismissed as overly enthusiastic. But after agreeing to consult on the project, Greg fell in love with the concept. He secured a two-container order based on nothing more than a prototype, became a "reluctant manufacturer," and turned that single idea into a global product line spanning hockey, baseball, figure skating, and now golf. That original stand-up bag design has put "bread on the table" for 15 years, funding Greg's true passion: dreaming up the next innovation.
Today, Greg is bringing his full creative arsenal to golf with the GRIT 2.0 Tower Bag. Drawing inspiration from automotive design, military backpacks, camping gear, and his own hockey heritage, Greg has created a square, cart-stabilizing golf bag that solves the age-old problem of clubs twisting sideways by the second hole. Now selling in over 15 countries including the U.S. (PGA Superstore), Germany, France, Korea, and Indonesia, GRIT Inc. is proving that sometimes the best ideas come from outsiders who have nothing to lose. And Greg isn't stopping there - he's already teasing a GRIT carry bag that promises more "wow factor" to come. At 69 years young, Greg Collins is just getting started on his new canvas: golf.
